Angel J. Miller, MSN, CNM is a certified nurse-midwife who has been practicing nurse midwifery for over fourteen years. She received her diploma nursing degree in 1986 at St. Vincent Charity Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio. She gained extensive experience at University Hospitals of Cleveland in Women’s Health and as a cardiac nurse at the renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation, as a key participant of the heart-lung transplant team for over 6 years. She had the opportunity to work with celebrated cardiac surgeons, Delos Cosgrove, M.D, current CEO and chairman of the Cleveland Clinic and Floyd Loop, M.D., former CEO and chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She currently holds a registered nurse licensure in the state of Virginia. She was originally licensed in the State of Ohio from 1986 through 2005. Angel has been certified in Basic life Support (BCLS) since 1985 and Neonatal Resuscitation since 1995, both provided by the American Heart Association.
Angel earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1994 and Master of Science in Nursing in 1995 at Case Western Reserve University Cleveland, Ohio. She received her certification in nurse-midwifery from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden, Kentucky in 1997. She was co-founder and CEO of a successful independent nurse-midwifery practice, one of only five in the state of Ohio, Womanplace Specialties, located in northeast Ohio. Her practice began in 2002, serviced women across three counties, and then sold the busy practice in 2006 to WRH Health System. The nurse-midwifery practice is still flourishing as part of the Women’s Center at WRH Health System in Wadsworth, Ohio. Angel and her partner were the first certified nurse midwives to practice at WRH Health System and were granted Active Staff privileges with full voting privileges, along with admitting privileges under their collaborative agreement with their OB/GYN.
Angel is certified by the ACNM (American College of Nurse Midwifery) Council in nurse-midwifery since 1997 and was recently re-certified in 2005. Angel continues to attend continuing education seminars and courses and prides herself in keeping her skills and educational level current with the ever-changing field of medicine, providing her patients with the most current level of care.
Angel was one of the first certified nurse midwives in Ohio to participate in a pilot study program for prescriptive authority. She has been certified to prescribe for her patients since 1998, continuing to keep her certification current with continuing education to keep her license up to date. Angel is also certified in Third Trimester Ultrasound for her obstetrical patients since 2004.
After relocating to Northeastern Virginia, Ms. Miller decided to continue her support for women and has brought WomanPlace to the Mid Atlantic with many new and innovative services. She continues to provide excellent midwifery care at Midwifery Care Associates, a nurse midwifery practice located in Rockville, Maryland, just north of the Washington, D.C. area.
Ms. Miller continues to be a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and also the Northern Ohio Chapter of the ACNM.
Angel has provided a comprehensive range of services in women’s health, including many years experience as a labor and delivery nurse. She has worked with a diverse population from large urban cities to rural communities. She prides herself in offering women education and choices in their health care throughout their lifetime. She enjoys using and offering herbal therapies for her patients. Angel and her husband, Randy, have two adult sons, Rhett (35) and Shea (28) and “Bear,” their 6 year old German Shepherd who enjoys one on one attention and playing whenever he gets the chance. Angel enjoys a variety of music, loves dancing and swimming and enjoys sports as a spectator, especially basketball.
